Principal Backend Engineer

Your new role

Become a member of Bucket’s strong team and help shape the product by adding your knowledge to the technologies and pushing new features. You will work directly under the CEO and CTO and act as a technology expert, making decisions that will impact the current and future operations of the company.

A large part of your work will include continuous sparring with the founding team. You will bring your technical insights taking your ideas to implementations, with your hands-on involvement contributing to the codebase. You’ll be working on a brand-new product, building it from the ground up, and setting the technical direction for the entire product. Furthermore, you’ll be:

  • Using modern technologies. Work with modern web technologies, like ClickHouse, Postgres, and Kafka. The web application is written in TypeScript, Node.JS, and React
  • Using modern tooling. Use tools like Prisma, Datadog, Notion, etc. Bucket doesn’t suffer from the “Not invented here”-syndrome and generally likes to outsource stuff to existing, modern tools when possible
  • Working with and learning from passionate, intelligent, and friendly co-workers. As a founding team member, you’ll massively impact the product and company culture
  • Enjoy plenty of ownership and autonomy

What you’ll need to be a success

You are a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and an expert in technological development. You are structured and able to estimate delivery plans and define the best practices around coding methodologies, software development, and quality assurance, including regulatory standards. Furthermore, you’ll bring the following:

  • You get excited by shipping great features to customers
  • Pragmatic, self-driven, and enjoys ownership
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with strongly typed programming languages, like TypeScript, Java, Rust, Kotlin, etc.
  • You’re in time zone GMT+3 to GMT-5s

It’s an advantage if you have experience with the following:

  • Experience with REST API design
  • Experience with the analytics use case
  • Experience with DevOps
