Engineering Team Lead
Your new company
Portchain is looking for a new technical people lead for their Connect Product engineering team, where you will play a leading part in developing Portchain’s products and people.
Portchain is dedicated to building a modern and user-friendly SaaS platform where users in the shipping industry can make quick decisions and stay informed through organized data. To achieve this, they use data, mathematical modeling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and optimization to help the users get full transparency on their operations and make better decisions.
Portchain is a 28-person strong team of nine nationalities, with half the company and most of the engineering team working remotely. The engineering team has an average of nine years of experience, so you will get experienced colleagues to work, learn, and collaborate with.
Your new role
Portchain believes that a happy software engineer has the freedom to explore new solutions and has a team that lets the best argument win. They aim to have autonomous teams co-own the platform and its technical evolution.
You’ll lead a team of skilled, friendly, and passionate developers, a Product Manager, and a Product Designer. The team members are partly remote and partly on location in Copenhagen, which is why It will be central to your role to build team spirit, keep motivation high, and coach remotely, establishing a good work culture. Portchain wants outcome-based development, focusing on the Why, ensuring that they make a difference for the users of their product.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Coach, lead, and develop your team to high performance while maintaining a good culture
- Help facilitate effective meetings and drive our agile development process
- Ensure a simple and fitting architecture for our solutions
- Support and facilitate your team in technical discussions and break ties if needed
- Help maintain and implement processes to support our development work
- Collaborate closely with the product and the rest of the engineering
Role Requirements as a Team Lead
- You have great people skills and can coach, lead, and develop individuals in a remote-first multi-national, and multicultural team
- You have strong tech skills and experience and know when to use them
- You have people leader experience from a tech organization
- You understand the workings of product development and are focused on outcomes
- You are structured and have experience helping your team perform their best
- You are a good team player and collaborate well with different subject-matter-experts and stakeholders to increase the quality of the deliverables
Role Requirements from software engineering that’ll help you succeed as a Team Lead
- You’ve had professional experience as a Software Engineer, as the team you’ll be leading is very technical
- Experience with any or all the following technologies: Node.js, React, TypeScript
- Full-stack proficiency – Nobody is perfect, but you’ve dabbled in different domains
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills paired with the ability to develop creative and efficient solutions
- Proficiency in automated unit and integration tests
- Previous professional experience working remotely
- A deep understanding that you always must navigate between the immediate impact and the technical debt incurred by its implementation. You can carefully weigh the pros and cons and choose in favor of the company and the team
Bonus skills
- Not required, but areas Portchain wants to be better in, so they could use that if you can tick any of those below:
- Experience with building B2B and consumer quality products from start-up/scale-ups
- Deeper understanding of network and application security and maybe also security when it comes to CI/CD
- Architectural experience with Cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure
- DevOps/SRE experience
